Sir Rod proves old rock stars can still dig it

‘My Ferrari can’t get through here at all. So me and the boys thought we’d come and do it ourselves’

SIR ROD STEWART has filled in potholes near his house because his “Ferrari can’t drive through them”.

The pop star has been filmed shovelling gravel to fill in water-logged holes on a country lane near his home in Essex. The Maggie May singer, dressed in a tracksuit and hi-vis jacket, claimed the potholes were a long-term problem that prevented him driving his Ferrari down the narrow road.

He said he was “repairing the street where I live” because “no one can be bothered to do it”.

Working with the team unloading gravel from a lorry, the 77-year-old explained: “This is the state of the road near where I live in Harlow. It’s been like this for ages. People are bashing their cars up. The other day there was an ambulance with a burst tie. My Ferrari can’t get through here at all. So me and the boys thought we’d come and do it ourselves. We are filling the holes while millions and millions of pounds have been spent on the M11.”

The video of Sir Rod working on the rain-sodden road was posted to his Instagram account, where his DIY repairs were met with praise.

The road is thought to be the “Sheering Lower Road”, which runs north from Harlow past Stewart’s 46-acre Durrington House estate.

The singer bought the Grade IIlisted, 18th-century property for £4.6million in 2013, and added his own personal touches, including a five-aside football pitch. The home also has parking space for 20 vehicles for Sir Rod’s car collection, which includes Porsches and Lamborghinis, as well as a Rolls-Royce and a limited edition Ferrari Enzo worth around £3million.
