Spain’s support for Morocco angers rebels
SPAIN has been accused of a “betrayal” and a “grave error” after supporting Morocco’s plan to take full control of the disputed territory of Western Sahara.
Madrid has always stayed neutral between Morocco and the Polisario Front, which wants the territory’s independence.
But Spain’s Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, said Morocco’s plan for partial autonomy was the “most serious, realistic and credible basis” to end the dispute.
The Polisario said Spain’s new position “contradicts international legitimacy”.
