Buried plates
SIR – We live in a 16th-century miller’s cottage and gain great pleasure digging up odd pieces of pottery (Letters, March 13). Most of our finds have been within throwing distance of the various external doors of the property – break a plate, sling the bits away.
Most date from the Georgian and Victorian periods but occasionally much earlier discards are unearthed. Makes gardening interesting.
