Ice cream worker scoops payout over pregnancy
An ice cream shop worker has been given a five-figure sum for pregnancy discrimination after her boss asked: “What am I paying you for?”
Abbey Gannapureddy, whose pregnancy left her unable to scoop up ice cream, will receive almost £40,000 in compensation.
Mrs Gannapureddy began working at the Icestone Gelato Café in Chester, Cheshire, in September 2018. After being made redundant during the pandemic, she was given her job back with reduced hours and duties.
Mrs Gannapureddy said that there had been a “change in attitude” since the start of her pregnancy, and that she was being discriminated against.
