The unique exhilaration of a hole-in-one

-

SIR – Donald Trump clearly believes he has a sense of humour, and his posts about his hole-in-one were surely in jest (“Things you can brag about ... and a brag too far”, Features, April 4).

Only golfers who have managed a hole-in-one can explain the exhilaration of hitting a tiny ball into a distant hole. It brings an overwhelming need to explain to fellow members, family, friends and complete strangers, how it felt.

It is an exhilaration that never goes away. I know because I managed one at Wimbledon Park Golf Club during my captaincy year, on the 15th hole, in September 2018.

But I don’t like to talk about it, as that would be bragging.
