SIR – I am finding it increasing­ly hard to buy traditiona­l hot cross buns.

From every angle you are invited to “excite your taste buds with our new flavours”, which include orange, chocolate, mocha, Marmite, tomato, cheese, sticky toffee and, worst of all, parmesan and prosciutto. A hot cross bun should contain spices, raisins, currants and candied fruit.
