Fireworks theory over blaze near RAF base
Firefighters were battling a blaze suspected of involving fireworks near an RAF base last night.
Emergency services were called to the Westbrook area near RAF Welford in Newbury yesterday afternoon to an incident they said could be caused by “pyrotechnics and fireworks”.
Explosions were heard by passersby, who filmed huge plumes of smoke rising above the site. It is not yet confirmed whether the RAF base is where the fire broke out, or if there are any injuries.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters have found a fire involving possible pyrotechnics and fireworks. Cordons are in place.”
