Golf curse

SIR – Vincent O’Brien (Letters, April 10) describes his exhilaration at his hole-in-one in 2018.

I suspect that his delight might have been compromised if, on returning to the clubhouse, he had followed the convention of buying everyone there a drink. The next time I get one I will be sorely tempted to go straight home.

SIR – Vincent O’Brien’s quiet letter about his hole-in-one reminded me of my father’s observation that he managed a greater number of them after his 80th birthday than before it. He had played more golf since that day.
