The Lion King (1994) BBC One, 5.45pm ★★★★★

This gorgeous Disney animation influenced by Shakespeare’s Hamlet features delightful comedy moments, as well as surprisingly dark corners, the latter namely being the death of Mufasa (voiced by James Earl Jones), the father of princely lion cub Simba. It is Disney at the peak of its powers. With songs by Elton John and Tim Rice, this is a learning experience, as well as fantastic entertainment.
