Policeman sacked for posting racist messages

A police officer who posted racist comments about travellers on a Whatsapp group after a funeral has been dismissed without notice.

An accelerated misconduct hearing was told that Pc Jeffrey Cresswell had used his personal mobile phone to post the derogatory comments on a rest day.

A disciplinary panel was told that the posts were offensive and racist. The Whatsapp group was formed between other officers to keep in touch outside of work.

Pc Cresswell’s comments were reported by other members.

Bedfordshire Chief Constable Garry Forsyth said: “Pc Cresswell’s language was abhorrent and unacceptable.”
