Teachers urge inquiry into ban of gay author
Headteachers have voted for the Education Secretary, Nadhim Zahawi, to investigate the archdiocese that banned a gay author from visiting a London Catholic school.
Author Simon James Green was due to visit John Fisher School in Croydon on World Book Day but the Archdiocese of Southwark intervened and cancelled the visit.
Teachers at the school went on strike in solidarity with Green, who had been due to talk about his book, Noah Can’t Even. Several school governors resigned over the issue.
At the National Association of Head Teachers’ conference in Telford, Dave Woods, the head of Beaconsfield Primary School, passed an emergency motion for the union to support an investigation into the archdiocese’s actions.
The Archdiocese of Southwark was contacted for comment.
