Woman and three golden retrievers killed by car
A FEMALE pedestrian and three golden retrievers were killed early yesterday morning after they were struck by an Audi in Chelsea.
The driver – a 26-year-old man – has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Officers were called to Chelsea, west London at 6.21am. The car also hit a traffic light before coming to a halt.
The 41-year-old woman was found dead at the scene and the dogs died as a result of their injuries. Her next of kin have been informed, police said. The driver sustained minor injuries.
A crime scene cordon was in place yesterday afternoon on Cheyne Walk, the historic mansion-lined road alongside the River Thames. Forensic officers were at the Albert Bridge junction with Chelsea Embankment and a blue forensic tent was pitched on the debrisstrewn road. Former residents of the affluent street, where house prices average £3.5million, include Laurence Olivier, TS Eliot and Ian Fleming.
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea tweeted: “We’re saddened to hear about the tragic collision on
Cheyne Walk. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman.”
Conservative MP for Chelsea and Fulham, Greg Hands, said: “Awful fatal car crash in Chelsea this morning.
“I suspect the (unnamed) victim was local, so I am available to help her family and those bereaved. And my thoughts with all of them.”
The Metropolitan Police appealed for any witnesses to get in touch.
