WW2 survivor: Putin as evil as Hitler and Stalin
A 96-year-old survivor of some of the 20th century’s worst atrocities including the Holocaust and the Great Terror has accused Vladimir Putin of being as evil as Hitler and Stalin.
As a child, Ukrainian Anastasia Gulej lived through the Holodomor, Stalin’s manmade famine that killed millions, and the Great Terror - a deadly wave of repression and purges.
During the Second World War, she was taken to the Auschwitz death camp as a forced labourer and sent on a death march. But she survived and ended the war in the Bergen-Belsen camp.
“What is the difference between Hitler, Stalin and Putin? There isn’t one because all three of them are evil,” she told The Sunday Telegraph. “Putin does not like Ukrainians and he wants to exterminate us all. He wants to commit genocide.”
“Yes, we have a Nazis in Ukraine. I’m one of them,” she said sarcastically, “and I have a number on my arm from Auschwitz to prove it.”
