English wine wins

-

SIR – I fully concur with William Sitwell (Comment, May 12) in his praise of British food and drink.

I have been boycotting French wine since March 2017, when the EU turned nasty over Brexit, and exploring English wine instead. It has been a revelation: outstanding sparkling wine (Chapel Down, Nyetimber, Langham, Ridgeview and Furleigh Estate); chardonnay of Burgundy premier cru quality (Gusbourne, Kit’s Coty, Bride

Valley, Hush Heath and Simpsons) but at half the price; Bacchus white wine (Winbirri, Nutbourne and Wyken) that is better than any Loire sauvignon blanc; and some pretty decent reds too. Michael Banyard
