Victoria University of Wellington is considering changing its name, to end confusion with other similarly named universities and boost its international standing. Grant Guilford, the university’s vice-chancellor, said that analysis had shown that the “very high quality” of the university’s research and teaching “isn’t being as well recognised offshore as it should be”, the New Zealand Herald reported. He added that the “confusion” with other universities including Victoria in their title “means the achievements of our staff and students – and for that matter our city – can be attributed to other institutions and countries, dimming our international standing”.
