In 2010, the UN Gen­eral Assem­bly ex­plic­itly recog­nised the hu­man right to safe and af­ford­able wa­ter.

Ul­ster Uni­ver­sity’s SAFEWATER Re­search Cen­tre has global reach with projects in South Amer­ica, In­dia and sub-Sa­ha­ran Africa.

We’re lead­ing on a trans­dis­ci­plinary pro­ject funded by the Global Chal­lenges Re­search Fund to de­velop tech­nolo­gies which will help to re­duce in­ci­dence of wa­ter­borne dis­ease and sup­ply safe, potable wa­ter to im­prove the qual­ity of life of fam­i­lies in poor com­mu­ni­ties through­out the world.

Nearly 1000 chil­dren die each day due to pre­ventable wa­ter and san­i­ta­tion-re­lated dis­eases.

We’re lead­ing on a

£6 mil­lion pro­ject, to pro­vide wa­ter qual­ity and treat­ment tech­nolo­gies for low in­come com­mu­ni­ties in Brazil, Colom­bia and Mex­ico.
