Bumper programme of events is on offer at town’s historic market
TIVERTON Pannier Market is going from strength to strength and is not only a place for buying and selling but is now a major tourist attraction for the town.
Over the years it has grown to offer a host of different entertainment and activties – and this year’s packed programme is offering 40 different events.
Located in the centre of the historic town, it was originally the site of a Roman encampment. The existing Pannier Market building was opened on June 8, 1830. In October 1959 a Bull Ring, cattle shed and stock pens were added.
The current market still boasts the beautiful Grade II listed Victorian pannier market building with full length glass doors. It is surrounded by both open and closed wooden units with plenty of space for pop-up stalls.
On general market days, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, it is open from 8.30am to 4pm. Mondays from 7am to 3pm, there is a Secondhand Goods Market.
This year’s events include:
MARCH
Saturday, March 30, 10am to 2pm: Easter Egg Hunt. A packed day of fun for all the family is promised, with an egg hunt, craft sessions, face painting, Owls R Us, live music and street food. There’s also the chance to see the cute Valais Blacknose (VBN) sheep.
APRIL
