Parker goals helping Tivvy in hour of need

- By RICHARD HUGHES

»»JOE Parker scored both goals in an important win for a second week running as Tiverton Town beat Hanwell Town 2-0 to give them a better chance of escaping relegation.

Tiverton are one place inside the Southern League Premier Division South relegation zone going into an Easter weekend that brings with it three games in seven days for Leigh Robinson’s side.

Parker scored two goals in Tiverton’s 2-1 win at Hungerford Town the previous Saturday, before again finding the net twice at Ladysmead when they beat

Hanwell.

That left the team just one point inside the drop zone but with games in hand over most of the rivals.

Assistant manager Ben Gerring said: “It is tight down there and it is going to be a good and exciting finish to the season.

“We want to get the job done early, we don’t want to leave it until the last couple of games ... we have six home games and enough chances to put this long, dogged season to rest and enjoy the last couple.”

Tonight, Tiverton are at home against Winchester City, before they have a home game against Merthyr Town on Saturday. On Monday, they are at Dorchester Town.

A 3-1 win at Buckland Athletic last Tuesday saw Willand Rovers earn a place in the final of the St Luke’s Devon Challenge Cup, where they will meet Ilfracombe Town next month.

Willand are currently 12th in the Southern League Division One South after losing 2-0 at Bashley on Saturday.

This weekend, Willand go to Exmouth Town on Saturday, before a home game against Bristol Manor Farm on Easter Monday.
