Tiverton were ‘magnificent’ says Robinson

- By RICHARD HUGHES

»»TIVERTON Town went into yesterday’s away game at Dorchester Town hoping for more points to pull them further out of the Southern League Premier Division South relegation zone.

The goals of Joe Parker have been important for Leigh Robinson’s team over the last few weeks and the striker scored again when Tiverton won 2-0 at home against Merthyr Town on Saturday.

This time he was joined on the scoresheet by Jevan Wright, with the win seeing Tiverton moving out of the drop zone to 17th, two points clear of the bottom four, and with games in hand over everyone below them but Plymouth Parkway.

Manager Robinson said: “It was probably the best performance all round since I have been here. I thought the players today were magnificent against a good side on a heavy pitch.”

On Saturday, however, Tiverton have a tough game – with the visit to AFC Totton, who are fourth and pushing for promotion through the play-offs.

Below Tiverton, Willand Rovers’ fall down the Division One South table continued – ahead of their home game against Bristol Manor Farm yesterday (Easter Monday).

Willand, who spent a couple of weeks at the top of the table early on in the season, are now 13th but not completely out of the race for the play-offs yet.

Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Exmouth Town was a blow though. Charlie Wright gave Willand an 18th minute goal but two goals by Ace High and another by Tom Bath left them reeling against a team that has spent most of the season in the relegation zone - but more recently has risen out of it.

After the game against Bristol Manor Farm, Willand go to Yate Town next weekend.
