A celebration of Japanese culture

From retro games to samurai swords, Hyper Japan is the UK’s biggest weekend dedicated to Japan.

Some amazing things have come from Japan: Pokémon, Hello Kitty and anime, to name just three. If you’re a fan of any (or all) of these things, then head over to Kensington Olympia in London between 13 July and 15 July for Hyper Japan – a festival celebrating the country’s culture, food and games.

Tuck into some tasty treats at the Eat-Japan food court, where you can try katsu curry, ramen and sushi, or belt out a tune with your friends at the on-site karaoke booths. At the Hyper Game and Anime Park, game lovers can try their hand at retro titles such as Pac-Man as well as the latest game releases. Nintendo will be there to showcase its Japanese Switch games, from Splatoon 2 and Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido to Monster Hunter Generations and Octopath Traveler.

And if you’re up for a bit of friendly competition, Nintendo will also be hosting Splatoon 2 tournaments at the event. Keen gamers will need to sign up for the tournaments at the beginning of the day.

Beyond the games, you can delve into Japanese culture and experience martial arts workshops, take a peek at Japanese films and listen to pop and rock acts from the country, which will perform live over the weekend.

Now in its eighth year, Hyper Japan is the ultimate event if you want to experience Japanese culture. To find out more about the three-day celebration, head to hyperjapan.co.uk
