New library opens in New York
A newly designed £32.5 million library opened on the bank of the East River in New York City, US, on 24 September. Hunters Point Library has more than 50,000 books and a whole floor for teenagers, which includes a video gaming area. The project was criticised while it was being built because it ended up costing more than expected. However, Dennis Walcott, who is in charge of public libraries in the Queens borough of New York, called it a beacon for the city.
