Mahler’s Sixth Symphony

Name: Apollo

-

“In May, I went to the Barbican Concert Hall in London. The musicians were from Rome, and their orchestra’s name is Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. The conductor’s name is Sir Antonio Pappano. They played Mahler’s Symphony No 6. A symphony is a long piece of music for orchestra, and usually has four movements (parts). There were around 100 musicians on the stage. Some of the instruments were cow bells, there were six timpani (kettle drums), eight French horns and even a hammer! Gustav Mahler (1860 –1911) was a composer who lived in Vienna. He is one of my favourite composers because his pieces are very intense, change from loud (forte) to soft (piano) a lot, have a lot of energy and are very fun! When the concert ended, I went to meet the conductor and he signed a CD for me. He was very friendly
