Levelling up

Create your own platformers with Levelhead.

-

Super Mario Maker 2 is one of the most creative games around at the moment, helping you to build your own platform-game levels and worlds in the Super Mario universe. However, it’s only available for Nintendo’s Switch console. If you haven’t got one of those devices but have an itch for making your own similar games, Levelhead might be the answer. It’s available for Apple and Android devices and most consoles and computers, rather than just one console.

The story here is that you’re working for a galactic Bureau of Shipping, testing its delivery robots by creating levels for them to explore (or L.E.V.E.L.s –

“Limited Exercises for eValuating employEe Limitations”, as the game puts it). Levelhead starts with a training mode that teaches you how to make levels, including introducing you to the different obstacles and items that you can use. There are more than 90 levels in this mode alone.

As you learn what’s possible, you’ll be able to share your levels with other players of the game, through an easy system (and a safe one – you’re not sharing any personal details). You can follow people’s profiles to make sure you see their new levels and you can see statistics on how often your creations are being played.

You can tell that the game’s developers have worked hard on making Levelhead as easy to use as possible. Rather than fiddling with controls and menus, you can spend your time thinking about how to make the best levels possible.

Even if you’re not sure about sharing your creations with the world, Levelhead is great fun for anyone who wants to test out a huge collection of other people’s levels, especially as the game helps you to find the best and most popular ones.
