Let the games begin
A fun-filled festival of gaming for all the family.
Gaming fans, get ready to play. The Yorkshire Games Festival is set to take over the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford, England, for a pixel-packed week of all things gaming. The festival will be an interactive celebration of the gaming world, featuring special guest speakers from the industry, workshops, masterclasses and the Let’s weekend, which kicks off th festival on 12–13 February.
Let’s Play is an event packed with games, free activities and live shows. Visitors of all ages can experience games on enormous screens, and can take each other on in video games, cool card games and board games. There’s even the chance try ew games before they are released.
The Yorkshire Games Festival director, Kathryn Penny, said, “This year’s festival will offer younger gamers and their families opportunities for free gameplay and unique experiences.” Visitors can go back in time to the retro pop-up arcade that has classic arcade games. These are free to play and will give a first-hand look at how video games have evolved. Football fans can meet Premier League football team Burnley FC, from Lancashire, as the club joins forces with Burnley College to talk about the world of esports and professional competitive gaming. You can even take on a professional esports player and test your skills against a Burnley FC pro.
Visitors can bring any old tech they no longer need, and a local organisation called Solidaritech will wipe and refurbish these old devices and give them to people from abroad who are hoping to start a new life in the UK. When it’s time for a break, head to Gaming the Mind, a relaxed and quiet space where you can also get top tips on mental health and gaming.
