Nintendo’s new game gets you moving in your home. e.

Imagine playing badminton, bowling, football, tennis and volleyball, then finishing off with a bit of sword fighting – all without leaving your living room. Then imagine how much furniture would get broken in the process.

Thankfully, Switch Sports is a way to do all this virtually, without poking a sofa, dog or passing grown-up with a racket or sword. Released for Nintendo’s Switch, the game includes the six sports above, using the console’s Joy-Con controllers to turn your real-life motions into on-screen action, whether that’s swinging, bowling or sword-swishing.

You can play with up to 16 playersp players in a bowling match but there are also online ne competitions to see how you compare to friends and nd d people around the world. The game will teach you u whichhh which motions are needed for each sport. rt. Most are simple: for tennis and bowling you just swing your arm like you would d if playing l for real. Switch Sports is the Switch’s equivalent to Wii Sports, a hugely popular game that came out for Nintendo’s Wii console in 2006. Like that, Switch Sports is a game that is going to be much more fun when played with other people, whether you’re supporting one another or laughing (in a friendly way!) when things go wrong.

Although Althoughlhh iit’s’ it’s startingi starting withih with sii six sports, a seventh h – golf – will be added this autumn. Switch Sports also works with Nintendo’s Mii virtual characters, or you can use the game’s own avatars, unlocking new outfits and items to change their appearance with the points you earn in-game.

Having joked about not damaging the room or hurting people around you, that is something you still need to watch out for if you get excited and start swinging the Joy-Cons wildly. Keep plenty of space around you and be sure to use Joy-Con wrist straps, and you’ll have a lot of fun.
