Fall Guys goes free for all

The popular game works on more consoles now as well...

-

Fall Guys was a big hit with players when the game first came out in 2020 for the PlayStation 4 console and PCs. The title lets up to 60 players compete on crazy, colourful obstacle courses, playing as characters who are shaped a bit like Minions.

The game quickly attracted millions of players. Then, in March 2021, the developer of Fall Guys, Mediatonic, was bought by Epic Games, the much bigger company that created monster hit Fortnite back in 2017.

Now there’s some big news for game fans: Fall Guys has come to more consoles.

Now, Switch and Xbox owners can play against PlayStation and PC gamers – and the game is going fully “free for all”. That means it won’t cost money to download and play the game, although like Fortnite, players will be able to spend money on in-game purchases to unlock new items for their characters. Also like Fortnite, one of those purchases will be a “Season Pass”, which allows 100 levels of progression to be unlocked by playing the game, and rewards include costumes and other items.

People who have already bought Fall Guys on PC or PlayStation consoles will get a free “Legacy Pack” of costumes, as well as a Season Pass for the first season of the game’s new version.

The game also now has full “cross-play” features, which means that PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC owners will be able to play with their friends, no matter which device they have.

Fall Guy’s competition takes place in a number of different mini-games, some that involve running, jumping and diving to reach the finish line. There are others that are more like team games.

Ahead of the new season’s launch on 21 June, the game’s developer was keeping details of the new games secret. However, based on Fall Guys’ history, players can expect plenty of silliness and fun when they start playing.
