DC: League of Superpets
In this new superhero adventure it’s up to animals to save the day.
Have you ever looked at your pet, or someone else’s, and wondered if they secretly lead a double life? Perhaps they are a fun-loving furry friend by day but by night they take to the streets to fight crime. That’s sort of what happens in the new film DC: League of Superpets.
The film is the story of Superman’s dog Krypto (voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who was Maui in the film Moana), who also has superpowers.
The two of them are inseparable best friends with the same special abilities (flying, laser eyes, superhuman strength), who fight crime side-by-side in the city of Metropolis. When Superman and the Justice League – which includes heroes such as Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Batman – are kidnapped, Krypto must save them all. He convinces a group of rescue animals, who have recently developed superpowers of their own, to help him on his mission. Ace the hound, PB the pot-bellied pig, Merton the turtle and Chip the squirrel, along with Krypto, set out to defeat the evil villain, Lex Luthor. The characters of Ace and Krypto first appeared in DC comics in 1955, as Bat-Hound and Superdog, and have been in many stories since as Batman and Superman’s lovable pets and sidekicks.
A video game for Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo Switch has also been released starring the canine superheroes, called DC League of Superpets: The Adventures of Krypto & Ace. Players can choose to be Krypto or Ace and use their powers to rescue other animals from Lex Luthor.
DC: League of Superpets will be released in UK cinemas on 29 July.
