The Week - Junior

A note from the editorial team

-

This was the year that world leaders made firm promises to help protect the planet at COP28. In our news round-up (pages 4–19), we report on the conference and the many other positive things that happened this year.

In January, the city of Leeds started its time as the UK’s City of Culture. In May, there were celebrations for the coronation of King Charles and in December, Manchester was named the most generous city in the UK. You can hear the team’s own picks of the year on The Week

Junior Show podcast at tinyurl.com/twj-show We salute some of 2023’s most inspirational people on page 22 and remember our favourite animal stories on page 24. On page 30, you’ll find some of the most intriguing scientific advances, including why a poo collection could help humanity. If that doesn’t sound odd enough, have a look at the year’s strangest tales on page 48. We celebrate sports triumphs on page 32, the year’s top films on page 40, games on page 42, and suggest how to make your own family quiz game on page 46.

As you can see from the collection of photos above, it’s been a busy year for us too, with our first The Week Junior Book Awards and winning the Children’s Brand of the Year award. By far the most important stories this year, though, have been by you. On page 26, we reveal what you told us in our great big survey. On page 50 are just a few of the photos you sent in and on page 52 you’ll find lots of ways to get in touch and contribute.

Our first issue of 2024 is out on 6 January.

See you then!
