Get set for 2024’s best games
Gorillas, cats, princesses and… paper-folding puzzles are some of the new year’s gaming highlights.
Last year was jam-packed with new games for consoles, computers, devices and mobile phones. 2024 seems likely to be just as busy, and some exciting new games have already been announced for the year ahead.
Mario vs Donkey Kong, which comes out in February, is actually the latest old Nintendo game to be remade for the Switch console. It’s a platform game that you can play with a friend, as Mario takes on a familiar foe: gorilla villain Donkey Kong, who has stolen mini-Mario toys.
Princess Peach: Showtime! is a brand-new Switch game where Mario’s royal friend Peach is the star. Out in March, it’s an actionadventure game where its hero transforms into different roles, including a swordfighter, a kung-fu master and... a pastry chef!
Little Kitty, Big City puts you in the paws of a curious cat trying to find its way home across a busy city. Along the way you’ll get to make friends with other stray animals, do some jumping tricks and kit yourself out with some cute hats.
Paper Trail looks like one of the cleverest puzzle-adventure games yet, where you find your way through by folding its levels as if they were sheets of paper. It tells the story of a girl named Paige who is discovering her special powers.
Foamstars is an online action game where teams of four players try to knock each other out – but with frothy foam rather than dangerous weapons. Players can choose from eight characters. It’s a bit like Fortnite with bath-bubbles and is out in early 2024. Finally, Tiny Glade looks like it could be the most relaxing game of 2024. It’s about creating castles by “doodling” on the screen with your finger or mouse pointer and watching the castle buildings spring up as if by magic.
These are just a few of the games that have already been announced for 2024 but you can expect plenty more to follow.
