Pirates! by Celia Rees (Bloomsbury YA)

Set in the 18th century in the West Indies, this rich historical tale tells the story of two girls: one who is enslaved on a plantation, the other an English girl expected to marry someone rich and successful. Joining forces to escape their unhappy lives, the pair run away to start a new life as pirates.

In the third book in the Hatmakers series, Cordelia leaves London for a journey across the high seas. Determined to solve the mystery of a missing girl, she sets sail. Before long, she encounters a pirate gang – the Troublemak­ers – and their fierce queen.
