Bible sales banned: China has banned online retailers from selling the Bible, making Christianity the only one of China’s major religions – the others being Buddhism, Taoism and Islam – whose main holy text cannot be sold via standard commercial channels. The ban on online sales means that the Bible can only legally be sold in church bookshops. China’s leaders have lately called for increased efforts to “Sinocise” religions, as part of President Xi Jinping’s promotion of traditional values.
