Pick of the week’s Gossip

Ozzy Osbourne is notorious for having bitten the head off a bat during a Black Sabbath gig in 1982. It was, in fact, a mistake. As he explained years later, a fan had hurled the bat on stage and, assuming it was made of rubber, Ozzy sank his teeth into it. “Immediately something felt wrong. Very wrong. I thought, ‘I didn’t just go and eat a bat, did I?’” Now, though, he is celebrating the event. “Today marks the 37th anniversary since I bit a head off a f***ing bat,” he wrote on Instagram. “Celebrate with this commemorative [bat toy] with detachable head.” The toy is marketed at $40, but has already sold out. Gunhild Stordalen (pictured), the Norwegian environmental campaigner funding the “planetary health diet” (see opposite) is no stranger to conspicuous consumption. Her wedding to billionaire hotelier Petter Stordalen in 2010 was reportedly the most expensive in Scandinavian history: with 237 guests flown to Morocco for a three-day party, it cost £4m. Her own carbon footprint is also sizeable: her Instagram shows her relaxing in Cuba, Mexico and Greece. But as she notes in one post: “Kindness starts from within. By being kind to yourself, you’ve more magic to spread to the world.”

When Reggie Kray was in Parkhurst Prison, he hit upon a novel way to silence fellow inmates. “I could hear a lot of idiots shouting,” he wrote to a female penfriend. “So I put on the record Release Me by Engelbert Humperdinck. It is much quieter now.”
