A bride-to-be in Uttar Pradesh in India refused to marry her prospectiv­e husband when she noticed that he was wearing a wig. During the ceremony she became suspicious that the groom, Ajay Kumar, was repeatedly adjusting his traditiona­l headgear – at which point a guest informed her that he was actually bald and wearing a wig. “The bride fainted and fell on the stage,” The Times of India reported. “Later, when she gained consciousn­ess, she refused to marry the groom.” A fight broke out between the two families and both lodged police complaints.

A North Carolina woman is battling officials to be allowed to keep her personalis­ed numberplat­e which reads: “FART”. Karly Sindy had her plate approved by the US Department of Motor Vehicles in October. But the DMV later asked her to defend her choice, following a series of complaints. Now, she has come up with the novel explanatio­n that her plate stands for “Friends of Asheville Recreation­al Trails” – an imagined group celebratin­g her hometown’s hiking routes, which she has now set up for real.

The sighting of a mysterious “six-foot man-goat” in rural Northampto­nshire is causing alarm.The incident happened on the A425 near the village of Staverton at around 2am. “Something crossed the road in front of us in full headlights for about three seconds,” read the report on Mumsnet.The creature was “maybe six feet or over, but had short powerful legs and hips which seemed to move in a circular fluid fashion. It was not a deer because it stood on two legs... Any ideas?”
