The best... air fryers

-

Tefal ActiFry Advance This chunky air fryer heats up in minutes and, with a 2-litre capacity, there’s space for six portions. The dishwashersafe basket rotates inside the fryer to give even results, and the clear lid means you can check the progress of food while it is cooking. Chips were crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. It isn’t quiet, but is quieter than most (£128; amazon.co.uk).

Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone The most advanced and powerful fryer on test, this can also crisp, roast, bake, reheat and dehydrate. It has a probe, so you know when food reaches temperature, and the dual drawers have a sync feature so both finish cooking at the same time. It is bulky, but has a huge 9.5-litre capacity (£250; ninjakitchen.co.uk).

Cosori Lite 3.8L Great value, this smart air fryer pairs with an app for remote-control use, and has a handy reminder to shake the basket during cooking. It heats up to 230°C for a really crispy finish, and can be preheated before loading food. The 3.8-litre basket and crisper plate can go in the dishwasher (£100; amazon.co.uk).

Tower T17023 Compact Great for small kitchens, this compact “budget powerhouse” is easy to set up and clean, though the basket can’t go in the dishwasher. It has a decent 2.2litre capacity, is simple to use with a manual dial, and heats up in seconds (£40; argos.co.uk).

Ninja Foodi MAX Pro Health This impressive gadget combines an air fryer and grill. At 44cm long and 12kg, it is big and can fit 3.8 litres (six portions). There’s a good range of features for roasting, baking, dehydrating etc., and it comes with a digital probe, but it doesn’t get food really crisp (£200; ninjakitchen.co.uk).
