No escape?

-

In his letter about Grays Farm ( The

Wokingham Paper, November 2)

Ian Haydon recommended walking by the alternative route past Langborough Recreation Ground in order to: ‘see a lot of nature and escape the chaos, noise and pollution of the Market Place redevelopment and the roadworks’.

This is indeed a beautiful walk but sadly it will not escape the wave of destruction and building afflicting Wokingham.

The South Wokingham Strategic Development Location (SDL) will be built across this route, destroying some of the most beautiful countryside on Wokingham’s doorstep.

Enjoy while you can – it won’t be there much longer.

In 2008, when the Council was ‘consulting’ on the SDLs I began recording the scenery and wildlife in this area, hoping it would help to make the case for sparing it from the bulldozers, and when it became clear that the development was going to happen anyway, I continued to build a record of the beauty of this area is, in all the different the seasons, so that future generations would be able to see what we could enjoy but which they won’t be able to.
