Wear your poppy with extra pride this year
Remembrance is too important and emotionally charged matter to squabble over, yet whatever the difficulties presented by the town’s regeneration, the decision to cancel this year’s Remembrance Sunday parade, marking as it does the 100th anniversary of both The Somme and Passchendaele, two of the First World War’s bloodiest battles, must be considered unwarranted, particularly as with some thought and forward planning, other options could have been possible.
This decision makes it more important than ever that members of the public wear a poppy with pride, illustrating that, no matter what the circumstances, “At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them”. J W Blaney, Wokingham
