Binfield bounce back to pick up the points

BINFIELD bounced back from a disappointing defeat to Brackley by picking up four points from their two games this week.

The Moles drew 1-1 against title-chasing Flackwell Heath on Friday night before ending their run of four games without a win by thumping Ascot United 6-2 at The Racecourse Ground on Tuesday evening.

Roger Herridge (pictured right) made three changes from that 4-1 reverse to Brackley with Alex Colverd, Harry Laflin and Owen Powell coming into the side.

But Powell’s night did not last long as he suffered a knee injury and was replaced by Jack Thompson-Wheeler after just 22 minutes.

Binfield took the lead before the break when Josh Howell struck home from the penalty spot to take his season goals tally to five.

Injuries continued to take hold after the restart with Jeff Brown forced off, but things seemed to be going the way of the Moles when James Tripp was sent off for Flackwell.

The visitors regrouped and took a point when Francis Amartey fired home with just 11 minutes to play.

There were two changes from Herridge on Tuesday evening with Sean Moore and Thompson-Wheeler coming into the starting line-up.

And Binfield produced a scintillating first half display at Ascot, running in five goals.

Moore’s return to the side took less than a minute to yield a goal as the visitors edged into an early lead.

Ben Hodges quickly levelled up before Ascot went ahead on 15 minutes through Joshua Dillon.

However, Herridge’s charges burst away before the break with two goals from both Harry Laflin and Ian Davies.

And Howell continued his fine scoring season with Binfield’s sixth after the restart and the visitors cruised to victory.

Manager Herridge tweeted: “Very pleased. Played some good stuff. Good in possession and organised out of it. Only one defeat in last 10 league games.”

The Moles travel to Chinnor in the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup on Saturday before hosting Ascot in the Floodlit Cup on Monday evening.
