Adventure of a Lifetime

- By BENJAMIN SHARPE Forest School

IT WAS only meant to be a nice, calming holiday but it turned out to be an adventure of a lifetime. It started when the Rodgers family booked a holiday to a relaxing island in Hawaii. Tim Rogers, the youngest of the family at nine years old, was especially looking forward to it.

“Maybe there will be magical creatures or fairies like there is out here in the garden!” Tim exclaimed, full of excitement. His mother booked the holiday only to escape the consistency of Tim sitting in the garden looking for creatures that don’t exist.

“Maybe this holiday will change his ways.” His Mum said to herself as she looked out to the garden where Tim was playing.

“Just maybe.”

It was the day of arrival and after a gruelling seven hour flight; they arrived in a village in Hawaii. Tim ran off with his sister Susan to go and explore. Very soon, they came across this queer looking, tall building with tiles falling off the roof and the faint outline of the letters: library. Susan turned around and ran to go and look for their parents but Tim was braver than her. He knew that he could enter and see whatever marvels of the unseen lurk behind its colossal, wooden doors.

As soon as he stepped into the strange building he knew that he had set his expectations too high. All it contained was shelves of books. Like you would expect in a library. Tim thought about turning back but he knew that there was no point as he had come all this way. So he opened up a novel and started to read it. His dream was to be a writer but he struggled to think of original ideas. Some of his best works were: Oliver Turn and Charles and the Chocolate factory. To name a few.

But when he opened up that book and got to the third page, he found himself swirling into a portal and within seconds, he was in a sweet smelling chocolate factory. The book he was reading was Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

Tim knew that any good book could make the place come to life but this was different. He was in the book.

He tried to interact with some of the characters but they didn’t seem to notice or they were rude and completely ignored him. Tim started to cry out for help but no-one responded. He decided to follow the characters in their story to see where they would go. Maybe they would lead him to way out. But then he heard something that changed everything.

“So, Charlie how long did you say you have been in here?”

The main character was stuck too! This meant that the story must have had an original name. Tim tried to find a way to check the title. He looked up and saw the front cover of the book. It read “Tim and the Chocolate Factory”

Tim knew all was lost.
