Se­bas­tian’s Ac­tion Trust walks along­side fam­i­lies of life-lim­it­ing and se­ri­ous­ly­ill chil­dren from di­ag­no­sis through treat­ment and be­yond.

They are look­ing to re­cruit Vol­un­teer Be­frien­ders who can of­fer prac­ti­cal, so­cial and emo­tional sup­port to the fam­i­lies and chil­dren.

This may in­clude driv­ing them to ap­point­ments, help­ing with home­work, go­ing to ac­tiv­i­ties with them or just be­ing a good lis­tener.

Vol­un­teers help out when they can and must be car­ing and friendly.

The na­ture of the need of the fam­i­lies means that this sort of vol­un­teer­ing is not for every­one, so we of­fer train­ing and on­go­ing sup­port.

ABC to Read is a lo­cal reg­is­tered char­ity which re­cruit, train and sup­port com­mu­nity vol­un­teers to give help to pri­mary school chil­dren who need a lit­tle ex­tra one-to-one help with read­ing.

Vol­un­teers are re­quired to visit a lo­cal pri­mary school based in Wok­ing­ham Bor­ough or Brack­nell on a weekly ba­sis (twice a week for about an hour-and-a-half) and sup­port same two or three chil­dren on each visit, talk­ing and read­ing and play­ing games with them.

The vol­un­teers are sup­ported by a field worker who is avail­able to pro­vide ideas and act as a link be­tween the char­ity and the school.

Their next train­ing course is tak­ing place on 11 Oc­to­ber to please con­tact us as soon as pos­si­ble if you are in­ter­ested.

Age UK Read­ing is a lo­cal char­ity pro­vid­ing ser­vices to older in the greater Read­ing area.

Ser­vices in­clude Lively Liv­ing Ac­tiv­ity Club, Lunch and Tea so­cial clubs, Be­friend­ing and In­for­ma­tion and Ad­vice.

They are cur­rently in need of help at their Lively Liv­ing Clubs which take place on a Thurs­day and Fri­day in Wood­ley.

The Thurs­day club meet in Wood­lands Av­enue in Wood­ley and the Fri­day club takes place in South­lake Cres­cent in Wood­ley.

The role will in­clude set­ting up, wel­com­ing clients as they ar­rive, pre­par­ing and serv­ing hot and cold drinks, serv­ing meals and en­sur­ing venue is clean and tidy when the group is fin­ished.

Vol­un­teers must be friendly and car­ing, have a flex­i­ble at­ti­tude and en­joy spend­ing time with older peo­ple.

Vol­un­teers need be avail­able Thurs­day or Fri­day from 10.30am-2.30pm. .
