McDonald’s double hat-trick sees Bracknell thump Old Pats
Bracknell 52 Old Patesians 12
CAM McDONALD scored an incredible double hat-trick as Bracknell thumped Old Patesians to pick up their first win of the season.
The winger broke the deadlock in under two minutes and quickly had three tries to his name as the hosts moved 19-5 ahead by half-time.
And there was no let up from Bracknell after the restart with Michael Clarke, McDonald (3) and Kim Plant all crossing the whitewash in the 52-12 bonus point success.
“Our set piece worked well,” said director of rugby Jamie Turner. “We displayed good hands at certain times but we are still a work in progress.”
There was just one change to the Bracknell side from the opening day defeat at Newton Abbot with Sam Gibbons brought in for his first team debut.
And it did not take long to open the scoring as McDonald crossed the whitewash and he soon doubled his tally with an interception try.
Skilful hands from the backs allowed McDonald to complete his hat-trick inside half an hour, but Lee Hathaway pulled one back before the break.
However, Bracknell burst clear again after the restart with Clarke charging through to seal a bonus point.
McDonald then added his fourth try with Vic Hardwicke converting to push the score along to 31-5.
With 10 minutes to go, the hosts turned the screw again as Connor
Segre picked out McDonald for his fifth try under the posts before late scores from Plant and McDonald again after gathering his own chip through.
