MP makes stand for cleaner air

The Wokingham Paper - - NEWS -

AIR pollution poses a serious risk to children’s health.

That’s the message from Reading East MP Matt Rodda, who last week attended a Parliamentary event to learn more about the damage polluted air can cause youngsters.

At the event, supported by British Lung Foundation and Client Earth, the Labour MP – whose constituency covers parts of Woodley and Earley – said that he heard from parents calling for a Clean Air for Children Programme to tackle harmful and illegal levels of air pollution around schools, nurseries and playgrounds.

The parent-led programme calls for emergency measures to protect children and babies’ lungs from illegal and harmful levels of air pollution where they learn and where they play.

In a statement, Mr Rodda said: “Air pollution is a serious risk to children’s health in Reading East and across the country, and it is important to learn more about its effects and how to tackle that problem.”
