Twyford Post Office remains closed

The Wokingham Paper - - NEWS -

THE LEADER of Wokingham’s Liberal Democrats has expressed his concern over the ongoing closure of Twyford’s Post Office.

Last month, the branch in Booze Bargain, was shut suddenly leaving villagers with a trek to Hurst or Woodley to get their stamps.

A sign on the door said that it was closed for a routine audit and would be open again in five minutes, but that has not been the case. The Post Office has confirmed that the branch was shut on Wednesday, October 16 and has yet to re-open.

Cllr Lindsay Ferris, who is a Twyford councillor, said that even he didn’t know why the branch remained shut.

He said: “It was moved from the Chemist next door where it had been successfully located for about 15 years, only about 2-3 years ago.

“At this stage we do not know why it is closed, other than we have been advised it is out of the control of the Post Office. How long will it remain closed, or will we need to find another site?

“How long will this take?

“The situation in Twyford has been caused by the Post Office having a new financial arrangement, no doubt for their benefit, but where is the benefit for the residents in Twyford, especially the older residents, or those who wish to get their money from their Post Office Account?”

A Post Office spokesperson said: “We sincerely apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Twyford Post Office.

“We are working hard to restore services for the community as quickly as possible.”
