READ­ING ROCKETS lost ground on the lead­ing pack in NBL

Di­vi­sion One and suf­fered a cup exit with two away de­feats at the week­end.

Satur­day saw Alan Keane’s men head to un­beaten lead­ers Team So­lent Kestrels and the league game was tied at 38-38 at half-time.

But the Kestrels broke away in the third pe­riod to lead 62-52 be­fore clos­ing out an 86-75 vic­tory.

Sun­day saw Read­ing head to pre­vi­ously winless Es­sex Leop­ards in the Na­tional Tro­phy, but that proved to an­other dif­fi­cult away day.

A slow start by the Rockets saw them fall 20-8 be­hind by the end of the first quar­ter and they never re­cov­ered.

The gap was trimmed to 36-29 by half-time but Es­sex im­proved af­ter the restart to cruise to an 85-69 win.

Rockets (4-3) host Bark­ing Abbey Cru­saders (3-5) on Sun­day (5pm).
