Oven cleaning franchise expert joins national board

- By JOHN WAKEFIELD

NORMALLY, you go out of the frying pan and into the fire, but one Wokingham businessman is staying in the oven and getting on the board.

Rik Hellewell, who runs the oven valeting company Ovenu has been appointed to the Board of the Approved Franchise Association (AFA).

His company uses non-caustic products to clean oven parts, leaving oven, hob and exterior spotless.

The AFA, which was set up seven years ago, is a national membership organisation set up to represent the interests of franchises and supports the growth of companies operating across the sector.

Mr Hellewell established the

Ovenu brand in 1994 and has overseen its development into a franchise network of more than 100 businesses operating throughout the UK and worldwide.

As part of his role with the AFA, Rik will draw on his franchise experience to support existing members and develop the organisation.

A pleased Mr Hellewell said: “I am very passionate about the franchise sector and am delighted to have been asked to join the AFA’s board.

“I believe that, as an Association that isn’t tied or governed in any way to either a European or even a global franchise body, the AFA is ideally positioned to offer an extremely viable accreditation option for franchisors and an effective platform for partner members to support the members.

“Hopefully I can draw on my many years’ experience within franchising to help develop the AFA, support our members and use this position to further champion the sector.”
