How to be super confident

- Personal fitness with Chris Hunt

RIGHT, let’s get you in the right state for this week’s reading. Read the words below as per normal and get excited. I mean, get really excited, get hyped, get active, get buzzing, get motivated … the next few minutes are for YOU so what you waiting for?

Be YOU this week but be the best version of YOU.

Be YOU this week and give it your all staying true to your values.

Be YOU this week and don’t be scared of standing out for being AWESOME compared with everyone else…

Be YOU this week and STATE YOUR DAYS MISSION FROM THE MOMENT YOU WAKE UP.

May is here…Can you believe it? Another month has passed and to be honest the Summer is within touching distance. I know the weather has been hit and miss with bouts of sunshine alternating with some cold wet days, but I really feel this Summer is going to be a belter, the sun is going to be giving it some this year. This is a huge positive for everyone in the area as we all know sunshine makes you feel great and really does have a positive effect on our health and wellbeing.

I will tell you another positive too, the number of people who have reached out since last week’s article. Last week, I asked for you to get in contact regarding OPPORTUNITIES and what you were going to do to become an OPPORTUNITY MAGNET. The responses have been fantastic. Please keep them coming. For some inspiration, check out some key points from last week’s article:

OPTIMISE your Morning rituals and watch the OPPORTUNITIES come your way.

OPTIMISE your diet and watch the OPPORTUNITY to be energized lead you on an awesome path.

OPTIMISE your state of mind and allow your brain to offer up OPPORTUNITIES that may have been suppressed for some time.

OPTIMISE your training and I am sure with Summer being just around the corner, the added emphasis on the way you look, and function, will give you some OPPORTUNITIES.

OPTIMISE your environment and allow the positive to whoop the negative in every possible way. Eradicate the negatives and I just wonder what OPPORTUNITIES will land at your feet.

OPTIMISE your rest and recovery and I truly believe the impossible will become the possible. OPPORTUNITIES occur when you are at your best, you are at your best when you are at an optimal state of performance.

And finally, OPTIMISE

YOU. What do you stand for?

What matters to you? What OPPORTUNITIES would change your life?

Please, please, please … keep those responses coming to me… knowing that my awesome readers are implementing and taking action on a weekly basis just gets me all hyped up to make even more of a difference.

So, this week I want to talk about a KEY AREA of my work that I conduct on a daily basis and that amazing life changing work is mental training.

If you have been reading this column for some time or if you follow me on social media, then you will have definitely heard me mention INNERCISE.

You may, at some point heard me mention COGNITIVE PRIMING. I wrote an article some time ago that went through the science of MEDITATION. I know for sure that last month I wrote about the benefits of HYPNOSIS. In fact, one of my personal favourites that I use with clients, family and myself massively is the art of REFRAMING.

To be honest I have many methods and techniques that I use and they all depend on the individual and their circumstances. One of the reasons I started my psychology masters was that I wanted a further understanding of the human brain, human behavior and why we do the things we do. I have worked with many clients over the last years.

What started out as a client base who had purely physical goals such as to lose bodyfat, increase upper body strength or improve mobility for example has now evolved somewhat.

At this moment in time, I have the highest number of active clients I have ever had. They all have one thing in common which is to be as awesome as possible and to essentially be the happiest they can possible be, but they are all very different too. Aside from my purely physical goal-based clients; my mental goal-based clients really do tick all the bases. I class client goals as projects as both myself and the client get to really work on the project together and really get to explore the area before we act.

Some of the areas we are currently working on are confidence, anxiety, depression, negative thoughts, procrastination, happiness, ownership, motivation and to be honest many more.

Between my one-to-one 60-minute sessions, my one-to-one online sessions and my one-to-one 30-minute F.I.R.E sessions I really do feel we have the bases covered.

Mental training is critical. The phrase in fitness and bodybuilding that I love is, “If you don’t use it, you lose it” and this couldn’t be more true for mental training too.

If you do not exercise the mind and give it lessons and actionable steps your brain will literally start booting down various areas and then before you know it, you could be a shadow of your former self. If there is one take home point from today’’’’’’’’s article it is to work your brain and treat it like a muscle that needs to be trained every week, using a range of methods to allow for growth.

We get told to workout daily using a range of tools … I believe this to be the same for your brain. So right this moment, I want you to use one tool and that tool is a MANTRA.

Say the phrase SUPER CONFIDENT and repeat it every two seconds for the next two minutes. Really embrace the feelings that present themselves. Feel the confidence increase throughout the two minutes.

Visualise yourself becoming more confident with every single statement. Do this every morning for a week and see how you feel. I don’t think you need me to tell you how it is going to impact you as otherwise I wouldn’t be sharing it.

Another week, another load of content and another homework for you.

Be YOU, be AWESOME, be CONFIDENT, be HAPPY and see you next week … Happy Thursday.
