Wokingham West Forest Townswomen’s Guild
AT OUR April meeting we were delighted to present a cheque for £900 to Pam Jenkinson from Wokingham Crisis House in respect of Wokingham and West Berks Mental Health Association.
This has been our charity for the past year and the cheque was presented by Barbara Wilford, the chairman of our social and fundraising committee who have organised a variety of events, much enjoyed by members.
Pam spoke briefly about how the charity provides help and support to mental health sufferers in need.
This was followed by a talk by Margaret Edwards about the life of a film extra.
We heard about the wide range of enjoyable work undertaken and were shown short excerpts from a variety of advertisements and films in which the speaker had appeared.
She and her husband thoroughly enjoy the experiences which involves travelling to many filming studios and venues.
Since the last meeting a group of members had attended
The Mill, Sonning for a backstage tour and tea.
This proved a fascinating event and gave us an insight into the history and running of the theatre including how they generate their own electricity.
The costume designer spoke of her work and we had a talk about how the small workshop copes with all the scenery required.
A small group of members had travelled to London to attend the service of remembrance held in St Martins in the Field church London to commemorate 90 years of the Townswomen’s Guild movement.
There will be other events throughout the year in recognition of this achievement.
Members are now looking forward to the planned visit to Bowood House which will take place before our next meeting which will be on May 20 in Emmbrook Village Hall at 7.30pm.
New members are always welcome and we offer a range of activities to suit members interests such as bridge, Scrabble, book club, film evenings, social study discussions, coffee mornings and visits to the local theatre.
