Wokingham open season with mixed friendly match
WOKINGHAM travelled to Windsor & Eton for their traditional opening match of the new season.
A friendly match played in a great spirit, with Windsor & Eton emerging the victors, winning by 125 shots to 104. Wokingham won on two winks with one drawn and three lost. Wokingham skips first.

WOKINGHAM Ladies welcomed Reading Bowling Club’s women to the Reading Road Green.
Wokingham won the match by 64 shots to 39, winning on two of the three rinks. Nicci Evelegh played her first ladies friendly match and made an excellent start with some great bowls.
Top triple for Wokingham was skipped by Jill Thorne along with Val Hales-Owen and Sylvia Pearce. Wokingham skips first.

In the second ladies friendly match, Wokingham travelled to Tilehurst where they managed a tremendous victory, winning by 46 shots to 38. Top triple for Wokingham was skipped by Anne-Marie Murray along with Gen Hughes and Marie Fielding who won by 16 shots. Wokingham skips first.

WOKINGHAM men travelled to Great Hollands for their first match of the season and won an exciting encounter against the locals by 73 shots to 71.
Winning rink that performed brilliantly on the night was skipped by Gerry Deeves along with Alun Hughes,
John Balkwell and Barry Woolley who won by 15 shots. Wokingham skips first.

WOKINGHAM travelled to Twyford for a Mixed Friendly match in very blustery conditions.
Twyford proved the better team on the day winning the match by 93 shots to 75. The top triple for Wokingham was skipped by David Smith along with Alex Thomson and Linda Smith who won by 3 shots. Wokingham skips first.

Wokingham Bowling Club welcome residents to come along and try bowls at its Open Day which will be hosted on Sunday, May 12 from 10am2pm.
Colin Livingstone, member of Wokingham Bowling Club said: “We have a thriving club with all ages playing the game, youngsters, slightly older youngsters and older members.
“Many have joined through the Open Day and it is a chance for you to see what you think.
“We will show you our clubhouse and explain what we get up to. Whether you are competitive or just want a friendly bit of exercise and a nice hobby, bowls offers everyone something they can enjoy.”
The club is located opposite St Paul’s Church on Reading Road, Wokingham
Farley Hill Bowls Club
IT was a mixed weekend for Farley Hill Bowls Club, winning one match and losing the other.
On Saturday, Farley entertained Yateley and despite the clubs sharing the rinks honours 2-2, Yately ran out winners overall 55-77 winning heavily on two rinks.
On Sunday, Farley entertained Old Basing and again the rinks were shared 2-2.
However, on this occasion Farley Hill won 65-61.
Overall a reasonably good start to the season has seen Farley Hill win two and lose two matches during the first month of the season.
There are no matches next weekend as the club hosts its annual Open Day from 2pm on Saturday where they welcome residents to go along and try bowls.
University of Reading
SUNDAY saw the University of Reading’s first Oddfellows Triples League match, of this season, against League newcomers Maiden Erlegh.
The visitors won 3 of the 4 rinks and by 82 shots to 58. Winning rink for the Uni was bowled by Jennie Crook, Janette Crouch and Skip Martyn Mellor by 19 to 11.
Uni Captain and Skip,
David Culy, came close to securing a second rink going into the final end level at 17/17 but Maiden E Captain Mike Fraser saw them home by two shots.
