both days. Visitors will be able to experience the tension as horse hooves thunder and soldiers clash as the epic battle unfolds.
Visitors for the first time will be able to get a bird’s-eye-view of the landscape on which the most famous battle was fought. As part of its representation of the 1066 site, English Heritage will open up the roof of the Great Gatehouse of William the Conqueror’s abbey. A new exhibition inside the Great Gatehouse will explore the lead-up to, location and legacy of the battle including a blow-by-blow account of the day from dawn to dusk. New interpretations will also be installed in the Visitor Centre and across the battlefield.
What is certain is the 950th anniversary of 1066 will signify an important date which, as well as being commemorated in Battle, will have a special resonance for the people of England and Normandy who will join together in a common bond of remembrance.
