Chilling­ham A 12th-cen­tury Cas­tle, cas­tle Chilling­ham, sur­rounded Al­nwick,by beau­ti­ful Northum­ber­landgar­dens, lakes NE66 and 5NJ. wood­lands. The chance to see a wide va­ri­ety of wildlife, in­clud­ing deer, red squir­rels and a herd of wild cat­tle.

Knight­shayes Court, Tiver­ton, Bol­ham, Devon EX16 7RQ. The ar­bore­tum and woods are glow­ing with colour at this time of year. Other at­trac­tions in­clude a Vic­to­rian walled kitchen gar­den, quirky top­i­ary and the fa­mous gar­den in the woods.

Ness Botanic Gar­dens, Ne­ston Road, Lit­tle Ne­ston, Cheshire CH64 4AY. Cre­ated from 1898 by the Liver­pool cot­ton mer­chant, Arthur Kilpin Bul­ley, who was a pas­sion­ate plant col­lec­tor. It is now home to the na­tional col­lec­tion of rowans with over 500 va­ri­eties which are spec­tac­u­lar in au­tumn.
