British Steam Locomotives 6-DVD Set
British Steam Locomotives is a series of programmes which looks at the power and majesty of some of Britain’s most famous steam locomotives. Each programme covers an individual locomotive and looks at its history, restoration and more recent working. The titles are:
• Flying Scotsman (100 mins) – the first programme traces the story from the time when the locomotive returned from Australia up to its acquisition by the National Railway Museum at York .The second programme features its visit to Australia where it achieved its most recent record – the world’s longest non-stop run behind steam.
• City of Truro (55 mins) - a tribute to the graceful Edwardian locomotive, at work on both main and preserved lines after she was restored to full working order by the Severn Valley Railway.
• Duchess of Sutherland (55 mins) - the story of the restoration to main line steam work of one of Sir William Stanier’s magnificent “Princess Coronation” class Pacifics built for the London Midland and Scottish Railway.

designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and built at Doncaster in 1938. It was restored to working order in the 1980s and is now part of the National Collection at the National Railway Museum in York.
• Princess Margaret Rose (55 mins) - designed by Sir William A Stanier, she was the first production Pacific locomotive for the LMS railway, entering service in July 1935. In 1962 she was sold to Sir Billy Butlin and put on static display at Butlins, Pwllheli. In November 1975 she arrived at the Midland Railway Centre and on
11th May 1990 she was fully restored and moved under her own steam again.
• Standard Class 4 Tanks (55 mins)
- the subjects of this programme are some of the popular mixed traffic British Railways Standard Class 4 2-6-4 tank engines built in the mid-1950s. They were part of a 155-strong class of go-anywhere locomotives. A number of them have survived into the preservation era and are
operated over both Railtrack and private lines today. This programme concentrates on the three, which have worked on the main lines in the 1990s, numbers 80079, 80080 and 80098.
